Erik Samakh (Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, 1959) is a professor at national art schools in France.
He is a visual artist who works with nature, technology, and sound. His artwork is displayed in many emblematic places, such as the Rodin Museum (France), Digne-les-Bains Geological
Reserve (France), Tijuca National Park (Brazil), and Jirisan National Park (South Korea) among many others. Erik Samakh’s participation in the framework of PES consists in the installation of lights in emblematic places of the PES contemporary art network. These lights are small, solar-powered LEDs that charge during the day and mimic the buzz of fireflies at night, creating poetic places and giving locals and visitors a symbiotic experience with their surroundings. Visitor registries and awareness of contemporary art are being developed with the collaboration of walkers’ associations, schools, and other organizations related to nature.

Erik Samakh (Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, 1959) é professor das escolas nacionais de arte em França. É um artista visual e sonoro que trabalha com elementos naturais e tecnologia. Tem obras espalhadas por muitos locais emblemáticos: Museu Rodin (França), Reserva geológica de Digne les Bains (França), Parque Nacional da Tijuca (Brasil), Jirisan National Park (Coreia do Sul), entre outros.
As intervenções de Erik Samakh no âmbito do PES consistem na instalação de artefactos electrónicos em lugares emblemáticos da rede de arte contemporânea PES. Trata-se de pequenas luzes LED, alimentadas por energia solar durante o dia, que imitam o pulsar do pirilampo durante a noite, criando lugares poéticos e proporcionando aos habitantes locais e visitantes uma experiência simbiótica com o meio envolvente. Protocolos de visitas e de sensibilização à arte contemporânea
vão sendo desenvolvidos com a colaboração de associações de caminheiros, escolas e outras entidades ligadas à natureza.

FIREFLIES – 2017
Step by step, the network is revealed through small lights that work like pioneers illuminating the night walks. The lights mark the space and leave traces, memories of future meetings with beings that shape the landscape and the territory, as did the human beings of the rock engravings of the Côa Valley. The space becomes a listening place.

PIRILAMPOS – 2017

Passo a passo, vai-se revelando a rede: pioneiras, as pequenas luzes iluminam as caminhadas noturnas. As luzes marcam o espaço e deixam vestígios, memórias de reuniões futuras com os seres que moldam a paisagem e o território, como o fizeram os seres humanos das gravuras rupestres do Vale do Côa. O espaço torna-se um lugar de escuta.
